Accessibility statement for the LJMU Initial Teacher Education Programme website

This accessibility statement applies to the content of the LJMU Initial Teacher Education Programme website, located at https://itt-placement.com/ .

This website is run by Liverpool John Moores University, School of Education. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • view the site on different screen sizes, from narrow to wide, without compromising content readability or navigation

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

A core function of this website is to act as a repository for forms and documentation supporting trainee teachers and their mentors during Initial Teacher Training programmes. The site consists of 250+ website pages, and 200+ downloadable support documents. While the web pages themselves have been created with accessibility standards in mind and have a very high level of compliance, the supporting downloadable forms and guides may not be accessible.

On web pages, beyond just avoiding accessibility errors and contrast issues, the site also makes use of specific HTML 'section' elements and WAI-ARIA markup (Web Accessibility Initiative; Accessible Rich Internet Applications) intended to explicitly signpost to acessibility software the function of each part of the web page. However not every page may use these features to the full extent that they could.

If a support document download is intended as reading material, it will generally have been converted into a PDF (Portable Document Format) file format, to make it viewable on as wide a range of devices as possible without proprietary software. Some older materials may still be presented in Microsoft Word format, however. Although PDF documents can be made to conform to accessibility standards, the site holds a large collection of PDF documents and not all of them will have been reviewed for accessibility by their authors.

If a download is a form that is intended to be filled out, it will generally be presented in Microsoft Word format. As with PDF documents, some of these documents may not be fully accessible.

Aside from PDF and Word formatted documents, the site has a small number of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet files that act as Programme-on-a-Page timetable charts. The information on these single-page charts is a summation of the information provided elsewhere within web pages and downloadable documents.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the 'accessibility regulations'). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Liverpool John Moores University, School of Education is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • The site houses between 200 and 250 downloadable documents, predominantly in PDF, Word, and Excel file formats. These documents are a mix of content created by LJMU SoE itself and other sources such as the UK Government Department of Education. The majority of these documents have a fairly simple structure that should be navigatable by accessibility tools, but not all documents have been through accessibility checks by their authors, and therefore some may fail compliance.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

As outlined in previous sections, although the web page content of the website is accessible in compliance with WCAG 2.2, not all of the supporting downloadable documents may be accessible. These documents will be reviewed for accessibility, as and when new versions are published. As some documents are sourced from, or must conform to requirements of, organisations external to LJMU SoE, it may not be possible for LJMU SoE to address all accessibility issues.

If there are any specific accessibility issues with documents that are of especially high importance or relevance, the LJMU SoE will endeavour to amend these files as soon as it reasonably can. It will also try to ensure that key dates and contact details are available in multiple places, including as part of web pages.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

As-and-when content is updated, we will attempt to fix accessibility issues with downloadable documents.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 14th December 2023. It was last reviewed on 2nd July 2025. This website was last tested during June 2025.

The test was carried out by the staff of LJMU SoE. All pages were tested using an accessibility checker web browser extension as part of a periodic site-wide review. A further audit of the website was carried out against the WCAG 2.2 AA standards by submitting a representative sample of pages to an online WCAG 2.2 reporting tool. In addition to this, ITT web development team have a practice of re-running browser-based accessibility checking tools on specific pages whenever non-trivial changes are made.
