Professional Expectations of a Trainee Teacher

Withdrawal from a Placement

The highest professional standards are expected from trainee teachers at all times, both at the University and on placement. Trainees are cautioned that if a school withdraws or terminates a placement due to unsatisfactory professional practice (for example safeguarding, unprofessional behaviour, or health and safety) in such circumstances the trainee will be required to meet with the Personal Tutor to discuss the issues and this ‘may’ include an assessment to determine Fitness to Practise.

NB: If a trainee withdraws themselves from a placement without discussion this may jeopardise their continuation on the programme. Trainees who have concerns about a placement should contact their University Liaison Tutor as a matter of urgency. They should not, under any circumstances, withdraw themselves from the placement.
