Providing high quality mentoring is a priority for all in the LJMU partnership. Our school mentors play a key role in the ITE journey and early years of student teachers. In alignment with the ITT ECF, the LJMU curriculum places central importance on the student teacher entitlement to receive 'clear, consistent and effective mentoring and structured feedback'. Our mentor development supports colleagues' knowledge and understanding of ITE, mentoring and coaching and educational research.
We are committed to supporting our mentors with their workload and have considered this fully when developing our mentoring plans. We recognise ITT General Mentors (school-based mentors) are key to supporting and facilitating the quality of the student teachers' learning experiences. Working together ensures the success of individual student teachers, our ITE programmes and strengthens our regional teacher workforce.
Live online mentor development
Mentor development is provided to ensure that school-based mentors are fully supported in developing their knowledge and understanding of the LJMU curriculum and the interplay between centre and school-based practice. Our live online sessions ensure that mentors can deliver clear and consistent mentoring throughout the phases, adjusting their approaches along the mentoring and coaching continuum, as appropriate to the phase of the student teacher.
The 7 live, online sessions are aimed towards all mentors and are equivalent to 6-hours of mentor training. Primary online mentor development takes place on Tuesdays. Dates for your diary are as follows:
